Fish Fry in Support of John Harrison
The Gulf Coast yacht community unites to make Gulfport sailor John Harrison Doucet’s road to recovery a little smoother.
The Biloxi Yacht Club hosted a fish fry fundraiser to help with John Harrison’s medical expenses. Hundreds of people filed in to the club to purchase ten dollar plates of Biloxi bacon, baked beans and potato salad. The fundraiser raised a total of $4,800.
All of the food prepared was donated by members of the Gulf Coast sailing community. Junior sailor Clayton Stoddard said, “Yacht clubs are really close knit. I’ve known John Harrison for a really long time, sailing with him and his brothers. When we found out it happened we wanted to help and stuff. That’s what this is for tonight, to raise money for the expenses he’s going to have and help out anyway we can.”
Doucet was electrocuted this September when the sailboat he was hauling came into contact with a live power line at the Gulfport Yacht Club.
Doucet is currently being treated at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia.
