First Travel Related Zika Case in Harrison County
Today, the Mississippi Department of Health reports one new travel related case of Zika virus in Harrison County. This is the second case of Zika reported this month in Harrison County. This brings the 2016 total to 17 in Mississippi.
Officials say the infected resident had recently traveled to Puerto Rico.
Zika is a mosquito-borne virus that causes severe birth defects in a developing fetus, including brain damage, hearing and vision loss and impaired growth if the mother is infected during pregnancy.
