First RS-25 engine test of 2024 takes place at Stennis Space Center
The first Artemis moon rocket engine test of 2024 took place on January 17.
NASA completed a 500-second hot fire test of an RS-25 engine.
This continues a test series to support future SLS missions to the moon and beyond.
Data collected from the series will be used to certify production of new RS-25 engines that will be used starting with Artemis V.
This test followed a “test like you fly” approach, firing the engine for about 8 and a half minutes.
With the completion of the test campaign in 2024, all systems are expected to be ‘go’ for production of 24 new RS-25 engines.
