First Responders Helping First Responders
First responders on the Coast know all too well the struggles dealing with the aftermath of a natural disaster. That’s why a group of Biloxi firefighters are headed up to the Hattiesburg area for a relief effort to help first responders there.
Chief Joe Boney says they know of three firefighters and a retired police chief who were affected by the tornado who need some extra help.
The group is leaving at 7 a.m. on Tuesday and plan to go every day this week working until sundown and heading back home each night.
Boney says they’ll be helping the first responders clean up the area by clearing some property. “We received so much help after Katrina. It’s the right thing to do. This is our people in our community who need help. We’re glad to go help. We’re glad to be asked to come help and it makes a big difference for us to be able to go and help first responders first, but then anyone in the community as we can get along.”
The relief trip is sponsored by the West End Hose Company. They plan on making a second trip some time in the future to help the first responders rebuild.
