First responders breakfast
First responders across the Coast sat down for breakfast this morning while being honored by the community.
Harrison County Senior Corps hosted the seventh annual breakfast to thank the first responders, law enforcement, and military members here on the Coast. It is no coincidence the breakfast is held on September 11th. A flag stood up front with the names of all the lives lost in the terrorist attack 16 years ago.
Organizers of the event tell News 25 they want the breakfast to be about the heroes who sacrificed their lives as well as to honor the first responders who protect us everyday. Harrison County Senior Companion Program Director Julie Massengill said, “It’s to honor the first responders that give their lives for us and put their lives on the line every day. We’re so lucky in this country to be able to just dial a number anytime there’s trouble, we can just call 911 and somebody is going to come running. We want them to know how much we appreciate that and this is a little something we can do for them to let them know that they’re appreciated for everything that they do.”
Sam’s Club of Gulfport as well as St. Joseph’s Hospice provided the food this morning. About 85 first responders from across the Coast attended this year’s breakfast in Gulfport.
