First phase of Dedeaux Road Project is a go
Construction for phase one of Gulfport’s Dedeaux Road Project now has the green light to get moving.
Gulfport City Council members approved for the contractor to start the first phase of the project at City Hall today. The project is aimed at widening the highly traveled section of Dedeaux Road from DeDe Drive to Three Rivers Road. Once completed, the road way will expand from two to five lanes.
Council members tell News 25 they’re excited to finally get started on a project that’s been in the works for decades. Councilman Robert “R. Lee” Flowers said, “There’s about 16-18,000 cars that drive that segment of Dedeaux Road every day. That’s a lot of traffic on a two lane road and it is a very important corridor to the Orange Grove area. A lot of residents live right on that road and that’s the only road they can use to get out of their homes for the most part.”
MDOT is also on board with the project. The city engineer estimates the total construction cost for the project to be around 5.4 million dollars.
Council members tell News 25 construction is set to begin later this year.
