First Pharmacy School Could be Coming to Gulf Coast
The William Carey Tradition Campus has put aside $21 million for the construction of a pharmacy school. They are seeking funding for an additional $4 million to make it a reality. Local officials are in favor of building a pharmacy school on the Coast since right now, most pharmaceutical students are either going to Alabama or Louisiana. The Gulf Coast Business Council has already passed a resolution in favor of constructing a pharmacy school.
Representative Hank Zuber (R), District 113, says, "To me, this is the number one economic project right now for the Gulf Coast. If we can have an institution of higher learning located on the Gulf Coast, specifically the Tradition Campus of pharmacy school in Harrison County, that takes us to the next level. That will change the game for everybody."
If all goes as planned, local officials hope construction will begin in the latter part of 2015 or the start of 2016.
