First Day Of Summer

It’s only going to get hotter from here on out today is the summer solstice marking the official beginning of summer. News 25’s Gina Tomlinson caught up with people on the coast to see how they spent it. June 20th may have fallen on a Monday this year, but that didn’t stop families from spending their first day of summer on the beach. “We been catching hermit crabs and building a sand castle right over there. I’ve been swimming and burying his legs.” you could say today was a little cool compared to last year when temperatures amped up to the nineties. 1972 still holds a record high of 97 degrees for June twentieth visitors on Biloxi beach tell News 25 why they were spending their first day of summer. Ricky Williams tells News 25, “We just come down here just relaxing and just get away from all of it and enjoy the sun and the kids playing and the beach and the water.”
Cole and Kelsie Richardson tells News 25, “Well you can tan, swim, catch hermit crabs, multiple things,”
Gina Tomlinson tells us, “But not everyone News 25 spoke with today was out in the sun today; some people were just trying to beat the heat, by staying in the shade.”
Angel Lewis tells News 25, “We ate snow cones and we just had a lot of fun, I went in the hotel, we’re going back to the hotel, to swim again.”
A group of visitors who came to visit the coast for the first time say after spending the first day of summer here in Biloxi they definitely plan on returning before the last.
Angel Lewis tells News 25, ‘It’s very fun and I attend to come back again.”
