First day of South Mississippi Music Festival kicks off

A brand new music festival kicked off today at the Harrison County Fairgrounds, just in time for spring break.

Families and music lovers gathered for the South Mississippi music festival, with the artist Juvenile featured as the headliner for the first day.

The three-day event is organized by Southern Productions and features fair rides, food trucks, and horse barrel racing.

Event organizers say the festival is unique because of the wide range of musical styles represented on the main stage, from hip hop, to country, and more.

“Tomorrow night we have Uncle Kracker, Saturday night the Kentucky Headhunters will be here, so it’s a lot of different genres,” Event Organizer Trae Swan says. “We’ve got the hip hop, we’ve got rock and country.”

Gates open tomorrow at 5 p.m. for the second day of the event and 10 a.m. on Saturday to close out the fun.
