First day of classes

In Jackson County, Ocean Springs School District also headed back to school today.

For the seventh and eighth graders at the middle school, it wasn’t a typical day in the classroom. The morning started off with a pep-rally where teachers put on a dance for the students.

The rest of the day was full of team building exercises so students could get to know their teachers and classmates. Seventh grader Taylor Griffin said, “I honestly expected myself to lose all my classes, have no idea where to go at all, but the teachers were really helpful.”

Eighth grader RJ Davis said, “I’ve gotten to know a few new people, who are new to the school. I think it’s just a really good way to start the school year.”

In Biloxi, St. Patrick Catholic High School also started their new school year this morning. Students spent the day learning their new schedules and finding their classrooms. St. Patrick Principal Matt Buckley said, “It’s always exciting to kick off a new school year, welcome everyone back from summer vacation. So, we’re just excited to have students back on campus, teachers back on campus, to kick off the 2018-19 school year.”

This year’s goal for St. Patrick High School is to have a one hundred percent graduation rate and have one hundred percent go on to college.
