First Autistic Friendly Movie Viewing

On November 7 Cinemark 16 in Gulfport will be offering a sensory friendly viewing of the movie Transylvania 2.  Sensory free means lights up, sound down and no shh-ing!  Basically the movie is slightly modified in the way its presented to minimize the triggering factors for the autistic audience, the end result is families with autistic members will finally be allowed to sit in a movie without fear of judgment or being booted out.

This was spearheaded by Lindsey Meyer, a senior at pass high.  Lindsey volunteers her time helping people with challenges on the gulf coast.  This summer while working a civitan camp in Biloxi she learned many of the campers had never been to a movie because of their challenges.  Lindsey set out to change that by contacting every theater on the coast asking them to offer a movie for these families.  She hit a lot of dead ends but in the end Cinemark stepped up and agreed to show a sensory free movie!

Lindsey is working very hard to make this a success, she is receiving lots of support from all along the coast and email inquiries come in daily, all while she continues her senior school work at Pass High.

Attached is the flyer that is being distributed, there are high hopes that this viewing will be a success and potentially become a monthly venue for Cinemark.
