First annual Unified Game
Taking place at HoopsFest this weekend was the first ever Unified Game.
The Ocean Springs Unified Dream basketball team took the court on Saturday to play a game. The team is comprised of special needs students from Ocean Springs High School and some players from the basketball teams at the school.
The team plays six games a year. Assistant Principal Justin Sutton tells News 25 that he is happy to see so many well deserved kids get their opportunity to shine. “The opportunity it gives the students, kids, fans, and parents. It gives everyone an opportunity to see something that they may not see otherwise. For the kids, we know it’s a thrill of a lifetime. I’m excited for them, their coaches, their parents, everybody. It’s a big community event.”
Sutton says that HoopsFest should plan on bringing the unified game back next year.
