Firefighters Learn Aircraft Safety
Earlier this week, a plane crashed in Tupelo, prompting multiple fire agencies to respond to the scene.
Tonight, The Gulfport Combat Readiness Training Center held a joint fire training where all regional partners learned what to do in similar emergency aircraft situations.
During the training, fire officials responded to a fire on a simulated aircraft. The goal was too safely and effectively put out the fire and then go inside the plane to rescue any possible victims.
The training has multiple objectives, one of them being to build partnerships and relationships throughout the region to better handle any emergency that may happen in the area.
CRTC Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Russell Shoultz said, “Nothing can be done in an emergency service without teamwork and partnership. So training like this is absolutely critical in developing those partnerships and ensuring that all emergency services can come together for one goal and save lives.”
CRTC Firefighter Mike Pritchard said, “This type of training is invaluable. We need to do this on a daily basis to stay up to par on our skills.”
This was the first time simulated aircraft training has traveled to Gulfport.
