The house built in the 1880s was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning in Bay St. Louis.

A Bay St. Louis couple who just finished a renovation of their historic home lost it to a fire early Wednesday morning.

The pink house with gingerbread trim was on the corner of Ulman Avenue and North 2nd Street. It was built in the late 1800s and a plate over the front door of the house said it was named ‘Sophia.’

The home is owned by Jerry and Sandi Favre. Jerry Favre was at home with the couple’s two Labradors, who alerted him to the fire. His wife was out of town on business.

He and the dogs got out safely and he called 911 at 6:07 a.m.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
