Fire at Southwind Apartments
The Biloxi Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on Irish Hill Drive this afternoon.
According to Chief Joe Boney, the call came in at 4:12 of a report of smoke at Southwind Apartments. Five units responded to the scene of the unit 17 complex. It appears the fire started in the kitchen area and extended into the living room area.
Chief Boney says the apartment received heavy damage and is now unlivable. He wants people to keep in mind the safety of cooking for the holidays. “Forty-eight percent of fires, kitchen fires, in the country, are started in the kitchen from unattended cooking,” said Chief Boney.
Chief Boney says another apartment had smoke damage and no injuries have been reported. The incident is still under investigation.
