Fire safety during the holiday season

Two house fires occurred in Biloxi this week.

One was started by batteries left in Christmas decorations and the other began from old batteries left in storage.

Biloxi Assistant Fire Chief Wes Smalls was able to talk about the importance of fire safety and also gives some tips to help prevent any more fire hazards during the holiday season. “We really try to emphasize certain hazards that enhance your chance to have fires this time at the season. One thing we want them to be cautious of, if you have a live Christmas tree, make sure to check the water on the tree. Check the decorations on the tree. Make sure they aren’t flammable.”

Fire officials also want to remind you to remove old batteries from your Christmas decorations.
