Fire Displaces Dozens In Gulfport

Dozens of Gulfport residents are without a home after a fire started in the South Point Apartment complex Wednesday. Battalion chief Chris Henderson tells News 25 heavy smoke was billowing out of a room on the second floor of the complex on 45th Avenue. Henderson says it only took his men 15 minutes to control the flames but heat from the fire destroyed the main water line which caused substantial damage to multiple rooms. Some residents say they were in bed when authorities told them to evacuate their rooms around 8:30 pm. According to Henderson, those living in the room where the fire started, left the scene and authorities are trying to locate them. All 12 units are going to be uninhabitable. Henderson says three of the 12 rooms in the complex are a total loss. The American Red Cross was also on scene helping those who were in need.
