Fire crews continue to battle woods fire in Jackson County

New details on that woods fire that popped up in southeast Jackson County Thursday afternoon.

Mississippi Forestry Commission and Sandhill Crane Wildfire Refuge fire teams continue to monitor the fire area.

Local fire departments in the area and state agencies are also stepping in to help fight the fire.

Helicopters are flying over the area to make a more accurate assessment of just how many acres have burned.

The Sandhill Crane Wildlife Refuge confirmed 60 percent of the fire is contained at this moment. Natural breaks around Grand Bay are causing issues with the containment however.

Crews are currently monitoring the situation and will be on the scene over the weekend as well.
