Fire breaks out at ship under construction at Ingalls
Firefighters at Ingalls Shipbuilding battled a fire aboard a ship under construction on Thursday night.
Ingalls officials said that during second shift on Thursday evening, Ingalls fire and safety teams responded to a call from LHA 8 Bougainville for a fire in the superstructure.
The fire was put out and two shipbuilders were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and were released later that evening. Four other shipbuilders were treated for smoke inhalation onsite. No additional injuries have been reported.
The ship is under construction at the shipyard and scheduled to launch later this year.
Ingalls officials say the fire was localized and only affected a small number of compartments.
Ingalls is working with the Navy to determine the cause of the fire.
