Fins Up, Flags Down
“Fins up, Flags down.” That’s a saying popping up all over social media this morning.
The University of Mississippi’s Associated Student Body Senate voted last night for the call to remove the state flag from the university’s grounds. The measure passed 33 to 15 after more than an hour and a half of debate during a meeting lasting more than three hours.
The resolution was co-authored by ASB senior Allen Coon and several student organizations, including the school’s NCAA chapter, the National Pan-Hellenic Chapter and the UM Pride Network.
If Ole Miss chooses to stop flying the flag, it will become the fourth public university in the state to do so alongside Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State University.
