Fines Kicking In For Biloxi Shuckers

A quarter of a million dollars, as it stands that is the amount the City of Biloxi will have to cough up for the definite 25 home games the Shuckers will not be able to play at MGM Park.
"We’re hoping that sometime in June we’ll be able to get the stadium open, no promises but the fines build up until then,” said David Nichols.
For every home game the Shuckers cannot host in Biloxi the city must pay 10,000 dollars to the team. While the fines kick in starting today, Shuckers co-owner Tim Bennet tells News 25, a decision has not yet been made as to when the city will have to pay those fines by.
"It’s not budgeted at this point. We’ll just have to take it out of what is called the ending fund balance.”
"Right now opening day is set for June 6, but with all of last week’s rain, that date may need to be pushed back."
"It’s always a possibility. The field obviously is affected by the weather and we have no crystal ball to determine if it’s going to keep raining or not,” said Jason Wold of Yates Construction.
This leaves the potential from more home games to be missed, which could cost the city thousands more in fines, something the city leaders aren’t overly concerned about.
"Right now what we’re seeing in Biloxi is an increase in economic activity. Our revenues are up in every angle. I think that the city is going to easily be able to satisfy those financial burdens,” said acting Mayor Robert Deming.
As for now, the sun is out and construction workers are out doing everything they can to meet the tentative completion date of June 6th, and keep the fines Biloxi will see to a minimum.
