Finding Homes for Foster Children in Mississippi
Have you ever considered opening your home to a foster child? If so the perfect opportunity to learn more about fostering in the state is here.
The need for foster families in the state of Mississippi is at an all-time high. That’s why Southern Christian Services is holding several presentations to provide the public with information on fostering a child.
Anyone is welcome at these meetings as long as they are interested in the possibility of adopting or becoming a foster parent. You can come out to learn a little more about the process and check out the Mississippi Heart Gallery.
That gallery is a collection of all the adoptable children in the state. Many are older and approaching the age limit for foster programs in Mississippi, but they’re holding out hope that they’ll find a place to call home. Tana Walker with Southern Christian Services said, “All children deserve a home and a family. I haven’t out grown the need for my family and I’m sure that even some of these children that are 17 and 18 are still desiring a family.”
The Mississippi Heart Gallery was created to find families for those kids and many are in need on the Gulf Coast. “There are a lot of children in the six coastal counties, probably half of the adoptable children in the state are in the three or at least the six coastal counties,” said Walker.
These presentations are informal. There’s no commitment. It’s a great way to learn more if you’re interested. “If you’ve ever thought about it just give us a call or come to one of the meetings just so you can get information. We try to make sure that families have a safe home. I think it’ll give people a good feel as to whether or not this is something that they’d like to do or not,” said Walker.
The next presentation will begin at 5 p.m. tomorrow in Picayune at Crosby Memorial Library.
