Filmmakers Looking for Cast & Crew Positions on the Coast
Some residents were in the right place at the right time at Wednesday’s meeting, where filmmaker, Daniel Zirilli, shared insight on Shark Lake, a feature film that’s setting the stage for production soon in south Mississippi. Zirilli says, "I would love to crew up as much as possible locally. We have a bunch of local positions and we are looking for locals first and foremost."
The starring role has already been filled by Dolph Lundgren, a popular actor many of you know as Ivan Drago, Rocky’s menacing Russian opponent in Rocky IV. Zirilli also says, "It’s a scary movie, kind of in the vein of jaws, action, sharks, cool locations, shooting on the Coast."
Zirilli is no stranger to south Mississippi. He directed the feature film, Blunt Force, throughout the area back in 2012, shooting in familiar places in Ocean Springs, Biloxi, and other parts of the Coast. Some of the crew members from Blunt Force have already been hired to work on Shark Lake. Mississippi Coast Film Office Director, Francisco Gonzalez, says this is the kind of hands on experience that will help the area build up the local workforce when it comes to filmmaking. Gonzalez says, “We want to get these people trained, people ready to perform for people coming to this town wanting to use the locals."
Until all of the positions on Shark Lake are filled, local residents will be able to take their best shot in hopes of landing a job in front of or behind the camera, and maybe even share the screen with Lundgren.
