Fill the Bus School Donations
Gulf Coast students head back to school in less than one week and parents know purchasing all those supplies can really add up. United Way of South Mississippi teamed up with Wal-Mart, South Mississippi Smiles, JR Auxiliary of Gulfport and local school districts to ‘fill the bus’ with as many school supplies as possible. As a finale, United Way set up camp in Wal-Mart parking lots from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., encouraging last minute donations. Seven Wal-marts participated in the ‘Fill the Bus’ drive.
Beau Rivage donated about $1000 worth of supplies toward the fundraiser. Angel Helgeson, with the Beau Rivage, said, “We really believe in taking care of the people in our community, the people that work and live in our community. It’s very important to take of them. And there’s nothing better than making sure that kids get what they need to be educated.”
All supplies will go to school districts in Harrison, Hancock, Pearl River and Stone counties.
