Filing deadline for taxes is April 18th

The deadline to file taxes is just over a week away.

The deadline to file taxes is April 18th. Is it too late to file your taxes? Mercy Housing and Human Development’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is free to you year-round. VITA Tax Advance Preparer Lauren Misko said, “It’s never too late to file your taxes. It’s something that’s a requirement. If you’re missing documents, that’s something that we can help you get and send you to the right resources to get them. Once you make the appointment and come see us, we file that day with you in the office.”

If you make around $60,000 or less, you can call and set up an appointment to have your taxes filed that day. If you choose to utilize their drop box option, an extension may be filed.

If you don’t make the deadline, there are still options for you. Mercy Housing and Human Development can help walk you through the process of filing outside of tax season.

You might be asking; how do I do that? Mercy Housing has you covered there, too. Executive Director Julie Egressy said, “And if you don’t get in before the 17th, like I said, we will have the form 48-68 here available if you want to pick one up to file for an extension. Or you certainly can go and google IRS form 48-68 or IRS extension form and get that and file it online.”

If you are unsure of how to fill the form out, you can schedule an appointment with them to help. Mercy Housing can also file previous years that you may have missed as well as help you file amended tax returns. “It’s a rite of passage, our taxes. It’s the only thing that that we can assure ourselves of is taxes and death.”

With that being said, get out there and file your taxes!
