Fight over gun kills one, injures another in Bay St. Louis

A Louisiana man is dead and his girlfriend injured after a shooting in Bay St. Louis.

A man and a woman were shot last night around 10 p.m. in Bay St. Louis. Police say there was a dispute over a gun. The woman is in the hospital and in stable condition, but the man succumbed to his injuries.

The shooting took place off of Old Spanish Trail in the Bay Pines neighborhood. Mari and Joey live across the street. They say that heated fighting was not out of the ordinary for the couple. “They’d been fighting all day and uh that she finally shot the guy after hours of fighting. They had been fighting since like noon. He had been pacing back and forth in his front yard on his phone”

According to the Bay St. Louis Police Department, officers were called to a home on Louis Piernas Drive and found a man and a woman both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Hancock County Coroner Jeff Hair identifies the man who died as 32-year-old Stephen Mosely of Chalmette, Louisiana. “but yeah, we came home and all of Bay St. Louis and Hancock County were here. We didn’t know what was going on. We were driving on the way back and all ambulances and cops were flying behind us, we were just letting them all get through.”

Police say Mosley was living in Bay St. Louis with his girlfriend, 37-year-old Lakeila Billizon, a domestic dispute turned physical police say and they struggled over the handgun before it discharged one time, striking both of them in the torso.

The investigation is ongoing.
