FEMA sticking with decision on Long Beach Harbor

Long Beach Harbor

The City of Long Beach announced a judge’s decision on the rebuilding of its harbor this morning.

Mayor George Bass said in a press conference Friday morning that FEMA is sticking with the decision they originally made. Mayor Bass said the judge panel agreed with FEMA.

Long Beach went to arbitration in November over the rebuilding of the harbor after it was heavily damaged in Hurricane Zeta in 2020.

The City of Long Beach conducted a pit test, showing damage to pilings in the harbor.

FEMA offered just $2.3 million to fix the harbor, then denied Long Beach’s appeal.

Mayor Bass finished by asking the public for their continued patience and support as future efforts are put into place.
