FEMA and MEMA open disaster center in Hancock County

Relief is on the way for those in Hancock County following those damaging April storms.

FEMA and MEMA officials have set up a disaster center at the Hancock County Tax Collector’s Office in Kiln.

The center opening its doors on June 28th.

You can talk to disaster relief officials from 8 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 2 PM on Saturday.

FEMA’s Jim Homstad tells us more on how the FEMA recovery assistance process works.

“FEMA assistance is grant assistance. You don’t have to pay it back. As of the close of business yesterday, we had exceeded $2.2 million in grants to disaster survivors in the six designated counties,” said Homstad. “They can use the internet disaster assistance.gov. They can call our toll free number 800-621-3362 or they can use the FEMA app.”

The disaster center is offering help from FEMA, MEMA, and the Small Business Association.

Be sure to visit MSEMA.ORG or WWW.FEMA.GOV/DISASTER/4790 for more information on seeking assistance.
