Federal storm grant for southeastern states

$1.9 billion in federal aid is coming to Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama to help fund losses from flooding and hurricanes over the past two years.

A vast majority of that will be going to Louisiana, $1.7 billion of the $1.8 billion. Alabama will receive $189.5 million and Mississippi $16.6 million.

The department says the Louisiana cities of Lake Charles and Baton Rouge are getting more than $15 million for recovery from last spring’s floods.

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards has expressed gratitude for the Disaster Relief Block Grants, but also says the need is much greater.
