Federal judge denies stay of execution for Richard Jordan

A new federal court ruling is handed down in the case of Richard Jordan, the death row inmate set to be executed this coming Wednesday for a 1976 Gulfport murder.

U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate denying Jordan’s request for an injunction to block the execution.

Jordan is set to die by lethal injection on the 25th, but he and his attorneys have been active with appeals, including asking Governor Tate Reeves for clemency and filing motions in various courts for a stay of execution.

Judge Wingate in last week’s ruling stated that the plaintiffs did not make a strong showing, but includes a caveat that the execution must be stopped if the first consciousness check shows Jordan is still conscious after the first dose of a sedative drug is administered.
