Fear Fete Dead Carpet Walk
South Mississippi’s biggest nightmare came true this weekend as scary film characters like Freddie Krueger and Pennywise the “It” clown stepped off the big screen and into South Mississippi. News 25’s Toni Miles was caught up in all the action opening night at the Fear Fete Horror Con and Film Festival’s Dead Carpet Walk.
Visitors took a gamble at the scarlet pearl casino in D’Iberville Friday night.
As another class of high rollers roared in. All part of the Fear Fete Film Festival’s Dead Carpet Walk.
Rest assured, the fans were alive and well. Armed with cameras, they took snap shots of their favorite film stars,
WWE Hall of Famer and “Magic Mike” movie star Kevin Nash was one of them. “One of my favorite things was to get those famous monster magazines, back when I was a kid. I’ve been a horror fan almost my entire life,” said Nash.
And Nash has a few fans of his own. He played the role of a woman killer in “Magic Mike”, but that was just a warm up for his most recent movie role. “We’ve got one coming up. It’s in post-production. It’s called “The Bend.” I play a serial killer,” said Nash.
This is the fourth year the festival has been held here in South Mississippi and it just gets bigger every year. Gary Crossland with Fear Fete Film Festival said, “That’s why we are trying. That’s why we added the Gamer Fete this year. We’re just trying to expand our fan base and bring in more people.”
And more celebrities. This festival marks the first time Tara Reid of American Pie Fame has stepped foot in this part of the country. “It’s nice to be here. You hear about it all the time. I’ve never been. I’m excited,” said Reid.
These actors don’t let all the fame and fanfare get to their heads, those who have one anyway. Instead, they take it all in stride. Movie Star Michael Bailey Smith said, “Two different gentlemen came up to me, one pulled up the side of his shirt and there was a whole image of me on there. The other had one on his calf. I felt just honored and thinking this is cool and different, but this is good.”
South Mississippi has rolled out the carpet for many scary characters over the years, Michael Myers, Freddie Krueger, and Pennywise, the dancing “It” clown, who seemed to be more focused on a stare down, sizing up his next victim. These fans don’t seem to mind the close encounters, evident by all the people who risked life and limb to check out this year’s Fear Fete Film Festival.
