FDA approves Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine
After nine months of being administered, the Pfizer vaccine has become the first COVID-19 vaccine to be fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
Since the start of its emergency use in December, over 200 million doses of Pfizer have been given out in the United States.
Singing River Health System continues to encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated as their hospital beds continue to fill up.
As of today, Singing River has 153 hospitalized COVID patients, 42 of which are in the ICU. None of those hospitalized are fully vaccinated.
Now that it is officially approved by the government, the Pfizer vaccine has sparked interest for some on the Coast. SRHS Graphic Designer/ Volunteer Nicholas Girod said, “The Pfizer has been receiving a lot of attention, especially in the last week, it’s received more attention than the Moderna, but I’ve seen today a lot of calls come in about the Pfizer as well as the FDA approval and what that means. And you know, it basically just means that you don’t need to sign that consent form. It’s just another step that’s just taken off. So, it is very much easier for people to come in and just get vaccinated.”
Singing River Health System currently offers the Pfizer vaccine five days a week at both their Gulfport location from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and in Pascagoula from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
