Father Sues Long Beach Police Department

Ryan Hyer, the father of the three-year-old girl who died after being left in her mother’s patrol vehicle, is now filing a law suit against the Long Beach Police Department and the Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services.
When his daughter passed away in the back of her mother’s patrol car, he says it was struggle to get Cheyenne’s body back to Florida. He finally buried his daughter on October 13th and now he’s planning to file suit.
Hyer accuses the Long Beach Police Department of covering up evidence of Barker’s previous arrest. He tells News 25 had he been alerted by Child Protective Services that his daughter was in custody, he would have fought to get her back.
He says the lawsuit is not about the money, it’s about holding someone accountable for what happened to his daughter. “You could give me $10 million. You can give me a billion dollars. That’s not going to bring my daughter back. Somebody needs to be accountable. Somebody needs to pay for it and the money, if I do win this case, if I get this lawsuit, I’m going to take this money and I’m going to help other families that have had the same issue. Nobody can explain or tell how that feeling is when you lose your child except for people who’ve had it happen to them. I’m going to take this money and help those families.”
Cassie Barker’s trial is set for Tuesday, November 8th.
