A Gulfport man is in jail, charged with shooting his father during an argument.

Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley said 54-year-old Jeffrey Swilley was charged with aggravated domestic assault against a vulnerable adult, felony DUI, two counts of possession of a weapon after felony conviction, misdemeanor fleeing, and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $650,000.

The arrest stemmed from a call Friday to Cemetery Road in Gulfport in reference to a shooting of an 84-year-old-male.

Deputies arrived in the area, the suspect, Jeffrey Swilley, was located in his vehicle on Cemetery Road. They attempted to stop Swilley in his vehicle, but Swilley led deputies on a short vehicle pursuit. He was ultimately taken into custody without incident.

Other responding deputies located the victim and found him to have non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. It was determined that a verbal altercation between father and son led to the shooting.

Swilley was also found to be in possession of two firearms despite being a convicted felon and was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
