Fatal Car Accident on HWY 49

The death toll of yesterday’s car crash at the intersection of Highway 53 and Highway 49 has risen to three.

According to Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove, 16-year-old Julisa Matute, who was in critical condition at USA Medical Center in Mobile, has passed away due to her injuries.

Her 52-year-old father Concepcion Matute and her 13-year-old sister, Rosalinda Matute, were also killed when their car was struck from behind, pushing them into another vehicle.

In total, the wreck involved six cars and sent two other people to the hospital. They were treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.

No official word yet on what caused that accident.
