Fatal train crash in Biloxi Sunday

A pedestrian was struck by a train in Biloxi Sunday morning.
Shortly before 10, Biloxi police officers responded to the railroad tracks between the area of Veterans Boulevard and McDonnel Avenue. The investigation revealed that a 43-year-old black female from Gulfport appeared to fail to move out of the way of the train despite the conductor sounding the horn and placing the train into emergency braking.
The victim was struck and later passed away. Coroner Gary Hargrove said, “I mean, anytime you cross the tracks you are putting yourself in danger if you don’t stop, look, and listen. The other problem is that we have some people who are using the trains to take their own lives and the traumatic part of it is that the engineers and the conductors on the train, they can’t stop.”
The victim’s identity has not been released and the investigation is still ongoing.
