Fatal shooting in Pascagoula

An early morning shooting in Pascagoula left one man dead.
Officials say the shooting appears to be the result of a domestic dispute. News 25 was on scene this morning as police investigated.
Neighbor Maya Johnson said, “To me, I would describe them as a loving couple, never saw them arguing, but I don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.”
That’s just what investigators were trying to figure out Monday morning after a fatal shooting at a home in the 2800 block of Martin Street in Pascagoula. Neighbor Dreanard Johnson said, “I heard the shots about 7 this morning and I walked outside and saw a lot of police and I just waited until they said somebody was dead.’
Police have identified the victim as 34-year-old Moss Point resident Jerry Lee Lyons Jr. and say when they arrived on the scene he was lying face down in the doorway with several gunshot wounds. Lyons was taken to Singing River Hospital where he later died.
Investigators say it appears Lyons had forced his way inside the home before he was shot. Captain Shannon Massey with Pascagoula PD said, “In the past, we’ve answered several domestic calls at this residence so this residence was known to our officers.”
Neighbors tell News 25 Lyons, the man killed, was the ex-boyfriend of a woman who lives at the house. Despite the shattered window of a vehicle parked outside the home and other signs pointing to what may have lead up to this violent crime, Maya Johnson describes Jerry Lyons as a sweet, loving person, leaving neighbors puzzled as investigators try to piece it all together. “I’m in shock because him going in there to force his way out, I just can’t see it. I’m in disbelief.”
Neighbor Dreanard Johnson said, “It is kind of scary because I’m not even 200 feet away from the house. It’s very sad that this had to happen in my neighborhood.”
No charges are filed at this time as the investigation continues.
