Fatal shooting leaves one dead in Gulfport

A Gulfport community is reeling after a shooting leaves one man dead.

Just before 3 p.m. Gulfport police responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 block of 25^th Street. Officers arrived to find a black male suffering a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport where he later died from his injuries.

Gulfport PD Sergeant James Griffin says they feel the community isn’t specifically in danger after this incident. “It’s not an incident that we believe that some random guy is out shooting people. We believe the individuals here knew each other. With the incident still being early in the investigation any new information that comes up will be made available.”
