Fatal deputy-involved shooting in Hancock County

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The investigation continues into a deputy-involved shooting in Hancock County Sunday morning, in which a suspect was killed.

Hancock County Sheriff’s officials say they were called to the area of Old Gainesville Road and Highway 604 in Pearlington by a 911 caller, who told dispatchers that she was in a car, handcuffed and being held against her will by a man with a gun.

Once deputies arrived, they were able to rescue the woman, but a standoff with the man ensued, and the man ended up pointing his gun at deputies, at which point they opened fire.

The man died at the scene from his injuries, and no deputies were hurt in the exchange.

As with all officer or deputy involved shootings in Mississippi, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation into this shooting.
