Fatal Car Accident in Harrison County

A Gulfport man is dead and a woman is fighting for her life after a horrific single vehicle accident occurred overnight.
The 51-year-old woman and a passenger were heading down Highway 53 near the corner of Old Highway 49 when her Chrysler PT Cruiser left the roadway, struck a culvert and went airborne.
It went through a group of trees, landed and then caught fire. Firefighters on the scene attempted to save the passenger, 50-year-old Stanley Lowery of Gulfport, but he was declared dead on the scene from blunt force trauma to the head. Emergency personnel on the scene then turned their attention to finding the driver.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said, “They found the driver lying in a bushy area near that vehicle. She had been ejected. She was transported to Garden Park Hospital in critical condition and then airlifted to USA Medical this morning, still in critical condition.”
