Fatal accident near mile marker 41 in Harrison County

At approximately 2:04 p.m. Biloxi Police Officers responded to the I-10 median around the 41 mile marker for a report of a single vehicle rollover.  When officers arrived it was determined that the driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, had been ejected as a result of the rollover and was deceased.

Further investigation has revealed that the driver, a 59 year old male from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, was driving a 1980’s model Chevy pick-up east bound in the left lane of I-10.  The driver attempted to suddenly cross all three lanes of traffic to pull to the side of the road.  In the process he collided with the front bumper of an 18-wheeler causing the driver of the pickup to lose control.  His vehicle began to roll and he was ejected.  As the vehicle came to rest, it was struck by another passenger car causing minor damage.

Neither the driver of the passenger car nor the 18-wheeler were injured in the crash.  A passenger in the car was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated for non-life threatening injuries.  The crash investigation is still ongoing.
