Farmers Market season underway in Gulfport
It’s still a little too cold for most gardeners to get started, but there’s no reason that your kitchen can’t be full of fresh fruits and veggies thanks to the Gulfport Farmers Market.
Starting today, you can head out to Jones Park every Wednesday to check out everything the vendors have to offer. The market runs from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and everything that is for sale was locally grown, made, or sourced right here on the Gulf Coast.
The market organizer tells News 25 that this fresh, healthy option has caught on. Farmers Market Organizer Diane Claughton said, “Mississippi is a farming state and all I could see were resellers markets. Obviously, I’m not from here and in England we have real farmers markets with real farmers and I didn’t see any along the Gulf Coast. So, we started one in Ocean Springs and it’s grown into Gulfport and into Long Beach.”
