Farm to School Week

It’s Farm to School Week for Biloxi Public Schools and the harvest is on at Gorenflo Elementary.

Today, the school’s food service provider and child nutrition services created a farmer’s market for the students. This week the students will also be eating a lunch of all locally farmed items and be visited by officials from the Department of Education.

Farm to School Week gives the kids a chance to learn all about farming and growing their own crops. Child Nutrition Director Cindy Cowan said, “The students can come through, shop and pick them out a couple of items to take home and share with mom and dad. We are showing them a little bit about chickens and just a little bit of education. It’s crucial that they have fresh fruits and vegetables and you know just things that are grown.”

Farm to School Week has been a tradition in Biloxi Public Schools for a few years.
