It’s officially baseball season on the Gulf Coast as hundreds of Biloxi Shuckers fans swarm into MGM Park. News 25’s Taylor Rubach caught up with a few fans on how to enjoy opening day.
It’s the day every baseball fan has been waiting for: opening day 2017. Hundreds of fans flood MGM Park, excited to see the diamond and cheer on their Biloxi Shuckers. Shuckers fan Brian Gollott said, “Opening day feels like to me, excitement, waiting for the first home run, waiting for the first score, waiting for the first hot dog, the first adult beverage and seeing all my friends here tonight, it’s exciting and we’re ready.”
Shuckers fan Leon Wallace said, “I’m very excited. Should have a good turnout, beautiful weather, and a very good team, got a lot of returners coming back. So, it should be good.”
Shuckers fan Craig Green said, “I’m excited that it is opening day. That’s why we’re out here, a lot of people, it’s going to be a good time.”
So, as we root, root for the home team, fans of course want to see a win, but watching the team make shocking plays puts icing on the cake.
Shuckers fan Brent Elmer said, “When people execute the right plays that are on and things like that, it’s just all beautiful to me.”
Shuckers fan Alex Stokes said, “Scoop. I love scoops.”
At MGM Park, all the fans have to say is there’s no right or wrong way to start off opening day, but it’s better enjoyed with a ball park hot dog.
Between food, witnessing home runs and walk-offs, fans agree this is the ultimate way to celebrate the opening day of baseball.
