Family Opens Up About Dog Attack In Biloxi
Family of the Biloxi teen who was attacked by a dog says the 15-year-old has less than a 50 percent chance of keeping his left leg. The two brothers were rushed to the hospital when a pit bull mix attacked them last week in Biloxi. News 25’s Gina Tomlinson has the latest.
While 15-year-old Jaxon fights to keep his left leg in the hospital, his 5-year-old brother Bentley’s back is stitched up and he can’t even walk.
The two brothers were severely injured after a pit bull attacked them Thursday night in Biloxi.Their Aunt Destiny Fontan tried to stop it.”I got on top of the dog as it’s on top of my nephew, biting his leg, and I’m hearing my nephew’s bones crunch.”
Fontan says Jaxon and Bentley were playing baseball in the front yard on Shady Lane when they were attacked by the neighbor’s pit bull.
The dog’s owner tells News 25 the kids were agitating the dog and this family pet has never attacked anyone before. Fontan disagrees.”That dog is vicious. She escapes out of her kennel all the time because they keep them locked up 24-7.”
A Facebook video shared by the owner shows the dog’s aggressive reaction to Halloween decorations.”Jackson’s leg you could see the bone, muscle, everything, she attacked both of his legs and his right arm’s broke as well,” said Fontan.
Fontan says the curb of the street is where it happened. She says when the dog was attacking Bentley, she says Jaxon heroically threw Bentley on top of the trash can and that’s when the dog got a hold of Jaxon’s ankle.”The dog had Jaxon by his ankle, ripping it to pieces and the trash can fell over,” said Fontan.
Screaming 9-1-1, Fontan then rushed Bentley inside. Paramedics arrived and Jaxon was life-flighted to a New Orleans Hospital.
The pit bull was taken into custody by Biloxi Animal Control, leaving the brothers with scars, injuries, and blood stains, evidenced by Jaxon’s shoes left in the yard after he rescued his little brother. “If that dog would have done what it did to Jaxon to him he wouldn’t be here today,” said Fontan.
