Family Fun Day at Truewood Senior Living

For many the summer time is the time for barbecues and cookouts. Truewood Senior Living Facility is doing just that while raising awareness for Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month is observed in June as a chance to spread the message about different neurological disease.

Truewood Senior Living in Ocean Springs hosted a barbecue cookout, raising money for Alzheimer’s research. General Manager Rebecca McGallagher said, “We are supporting Alzheimer’s. It’s important to us personally or me personally as well as professionally. So, we try all year long to support so that we can give back as much as we can, but today we are trying to get our residents involved and our family members, so we had a family fun day.”

It’s family fun day at Truewood Senior Living where they have several activities for guests to participate in. Resident Care Director Amy Findley says her favorite part of the day was dunking her general manager. “I have always dreamed of seeing her get dunked and her kids came today and added five buckets of ice to the water. It was my greatest pleasure of the day.”

Other activities include corn hole, connect four, live entertainment, and food! John McGallagher with Due South BBQ said, “I am a part of Due South BBQ cooking team and just come out today to support the cause and hopefully benefit some other people in the future.”

It was also for one guest to celebrate with his wife of 70 years. Guest Tony Patricca said, “My wife has been here for three months. This is the big first event that I’ve been to, but the people here are fantastic. I have yet to find anybody that has been and they’ve been so good to my wife.”
