Family Financial Fun Day debuts Saturday

A new program geared toward children and families is set to debut tomorrow in Gulfport, with the goal of promoting financial literacy among younger children and even teens.

The Family Financial Fun Day is a program of the Mississippi Council of Economic Education and will be held at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center from 9 to 11 a.m.

Kids and their parents will learn more about numerous financial topics, including the meaning of money, savings, and even planning for a pet over five learning sessions.

Organizers say they’re looking forward to giving younger generations money tips in a fun atmosphere. Mississippi Council on Economic Education President Selena Swartzfager said, “What we know is that it’s important. it’s like any other subject matter, you don’t wait until they’re seniors in high school to teach them math, or English, so let’s not wait until that old to teach them about money. Everybody is going to have a need to understand how money works.”

The event will be followed by free play time for kids at Lynn Meadows. The fun day is free, but advance registration is encouraged at www.mscee.org.
