Families Light Candles to Remember Loved Ones Who’ve Passed

The holidays are a time to spend with loved ones, but it’s also a time to celebrate and remember the lives of those who have already left us.

Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Homes held their 13th annual Celebration of Lights Friday evening. After a short ceremony featuring music and prayer, families spread out to light candles placed at every grave in D’Iberville Memorial Park. The lights will glow softly until midnight, and many families plan to remain into the night and remember their loved ones.

Hilda Strayham, visiting Bill Strayham and Candice Newman, says, “Very hard, but it’s a spiritual thing, and it’s sad in a way, but it’s very calm and… I can’t say what I wanna’ say. It’s very emotional.”

Another service will be held Sarurday, starting at 3:30 p.m., at Crestlawn Memorial Park
