Ezell authors bill to fund National Flood Insurance Program
An update on Congressman Mike Ezell’s efforts during the government shutdown to restore flood insurance coverage for Mississippi homeowners and homeowners across the country.
Ezell introduced legislation in the House Wednesday to immediately restore the National Flood Insurance Program, which has lapsed as a result of the shutdown.
Unless Congress passes a retroactive extension, thousands of homeowners could face higher rates until the shutdown is resolved and things like home closings could also be delayed.
In Mississippi, there are 55,000 NFIP policies worth a total of $13 billion in property value.
In a statement, Ezell says that his legislation would fund the NFIP through the end of 2026 and that Mississippians shouldn’t lose flood insurance during any political stalemates in Washington.
