Extra Table speaks out on impact of House Bill 1723 as State Senate prepares to vote

The Mississippi Senate is expected to take up House Bill 1723 this week which would provide a tax credit for food pantries.

House Bill 1723 will allow businesses to receive a dollar-for-dollar credit when they donate to food banks.

Mississippi’s four food banks will then distribute this money across 455 food pantries. The bill was passed unanimously by the House on February 21st.

Extra Table, a nonprofit that helps food pantries, is backing this bill and hopes others will too. Extra Table Executive Director Martha Allen said, “As the hungriest state in the nation, we can change that and make a big dent in the fight against hunger with bills just like this. So, stop for five seconds and reach out to your senator or the lieutenant governor, and just share with them that you are in the food fight and you believe in feeding those hungry in Mississippi.”

Don’t forget that you can still donate to Extra Table’s March of the Mayors at your city hall until the end of March.
